Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
In the physical world when we are sick or injured we some times need a transfusion in order to heal and move forward in our recovery. This can also be true emotional, mentally and even spiritually.
King David wrote this portion of scripture right after his mistake with Bathsheba and his sin against Uriah, her husband. While we may or may not be guilty of the same thing David was guilty of, it is certain we all have some type of mistake in our life that we have often wished had not happened and that we need healing from. Regardless of whether it was my fault or someone else’s the fact remains that life can often leave us with open wounds.
David said, “Create in me a clean heart.” The beginning of that healing is a clean heart. David wanted a clean heart because he needed a new kind of blood, a new kind of life flowing through him.
Literally out of nothing God Almighty can create a new heart in the midst of the worst darkness and deepest wounds of our life and transfuse us with new life, new light and new hope.
And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
It doesn’t matter how dark or confused our life is today and it doesn’t matter how bad the mistake or how deep the wound. Simply ask the Lord to create in you a new heart and watch the love, light and life of God begin to find its way into your life.
Create in me a clean heart Oh God!
