1 John 4:8
He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
God is love.
An insatiable hunger and thirst drives humanity from one thing to the next. A new car, a new house, the next meal, a new relationship, a new job, new clothes. On and on it goes. People, possessions, places and privileges and it never satisfies on a permanent basis. The new wears off and we’re off to acquire the next thing. We look down on those with chemical dependency issues in life and yet we’re driven by this insatiable hunger and thirst on the inside.
What is this insatiable thing that drives us from one high to the next? It is our desire to be reconnected to the source of our beginning.
God created us and the Bible is very clear that God is love. So then what did He make us with? The only material He had was love because He is love. The only thing that satisfies and never gets old or loses its newness is God’s love.
In Acts the third chapter Peter and John were going into the Temple and saw a lame man begging alms. Peter looked at him and said, “Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.” Peter didn’t have any money but he had empathy and the love of God and that is what he gave the man. The love of God healed that man that day and filled him with joy. Acts 3:8, And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God.
There is nothing wrong with relationships and possessions when God gives them to you and He wants to do that, but the very first thing we need is to be filled with the love of God and share that with others.
