Blessed be the LORD: for he hath shewed me his marvellous kindness in a strong city. For I said in my haste, I am cut off from before thine eyes: nevertheless thou heardest the voice of my supplications when I cried unto thee.
Psalm 23 says, “thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies”. There is always a special meal prepared for us in the midst of the greatest problems and trials of life.
When the children of Israel were in bondage in Egypt they were served their first passover meal and then delivered. They needed the passover meal in order to have the necessary substance to make the journey out of Egypt and through the wilderness to the promised land.
Daniel, when he was in captivity, was served a special diet to prepare him for his service to the king. Anytime God’s people have found themselves walled up inside a strong city that they could not escape, God always fed them a special meal and then delivered them into the next part of their journey.
The Psalmist said, “Blessed be the LORD: for he hath shewed me his marvellous kindness in a strong city.”
There are times in our lives when we feel as though we are being held captive in a strong city and we search every where for something to feed on and a way out of the strong walls. Nothing seems to satisfy at that particular place in our journey. We are as Israel when she traveled through the wilderness. The cloud and fire would stop her in a particular place and, without fail, the manna would fall where she was stopped. She had to be stopped in that place because that is where her next special meal was going to fall.
God stops us and we feel walled in because that is where our next special meal is going to be. If we can learn to stand still, blessing the LORD for His marvellous kindness in the middle of that strong city, the manna will fall and God will lead us forward out of that place on toward the promised land.
The Psalmist had learned this lesson. He said in the middle of this strong city the LORD hath shown me His marvellous kindness.
Blessed be the LORD for He has shown us His marvellous kindness in the midst of our strong city!
