I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.
We were created by God Almighty who is the owner of all things. The fact that we were created by God and that He is our owner makes us an object of displeasure for God’s enemies. The enemy of our soul begins early trying to mar and render God’s possessions useless in order to interfere with and destroy God’s plans and purposes.
This is the reason that we have suffered humiliation, rejection and even abuse at other’s hands as we have walked through life. Has it ever felt like someone was always trying to rob you of your identity and destroy your image of self worth?
The Bible uses two words to describe how we are made. Fearfully and wonderfully.
Fearfully means to stand in awe of, be awed. The word wonderfully used in Psalm 139 means to be distinct, marked out, be separated, be distinguished.
The Psalmist is saying I am in awe at how God has marked me out, separated and distinguished me from everyone else. It is God who has made us so different from everyone else around us and His works are marvellous. Marvellous, to be difficult to understand but wonderful and extraordinary.
When you think about the pain and grief you have been through at others hands, abuse of all kinds from mental, physical, sexual and even religious abuse, to rejection from every corner of life, you wonder if there is any good thing in you. Here is the breaking news for today. We were fearfully and wonderfully made by God’s own hands and no matter what life has dealt us we are still owned by the King of kings and LORD of lords. We still possess the talents God gave us when He created us.
Instead of hiding our talents in the ground we need to stand up and say, I am a child of the Most High God. I was fearfully and wonderfully made by God Himself and it is marvellous in my eyes!
God does not make junk. Let us be who He created us to be and not what people think you should be!
