John 4:35
Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.

This takes place right after John is cast into prison. When Jesus hears that John is cast into prison He leaves Nazareth and goes to Capernaum so that scripture could be fulfilled or so that the promise of God’s plan could be brought into performance. Matthew 4:16, The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.

The word for region in Matthew 4:16 is the same word in the original translated as fields in John 4:35. Immediately after speaking this Jesus begins to gather His Disciples up.

Jesus says, in so many words, I’m not talking about four months from now, right now is the time, today is the day of salvation. Look into the region and shadow of death because light is springing up there. When we find ourselves in the region and shadow of death it is easy to become discouraged, despondent and then slid down into defeat. Jesus walked into the region and shadow of death by the Father’s plan because he was to carry great light into the darkness.

When we find ourselves in great darkness it is because we are to shine as great lights to all those watching us walk through that darkness. It doesn’t mean there will not be pain, misunderstanding and human emotions involved. It just means I’ve been called and sent by God to be a great light in the region and shadow of death. Psalm 23:4, Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

We do not have to fear. The LORD is with us. What a blessed eternal privilege to be called to carry the light into the regions and shadow of death. Matthew 5:14, Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

The next time you are seemingly walking through the valley of the shadow of death lift your eyes up and look on the fields around you because they are white unto harvest today and somebody is watching you.
