And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone: and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald.
It was a rainbow that the LORD put in the sky after the flood in Noah’s day as a token or a symbol of His covenant with the earth that He would never again destroy all life with a flood. It was not the covenant but was a symbol or reminder of the covenant. The covenant was a covenant of life and the Rainbow was a symbol of that covenant of life.
That bow or that covenant of life completely encircled the earth although we can only see half of it with our naked human eye.
That same covenant surrounds the Throne of God. So when I find myself drowning in the floods of ungodly men, as the Psalmist described, all I have to do is return to the Throne of God and I am surrounded by this covenant of life. When the noisome pestilence threatens to overcome me and drag me down into defeat all I must do is return to the Throne of God and get a fresh covering of this covenant of life.
No wonder all things are possible with God. How can I be stopped or defeated if I’m encircled by this covenant of life that comes out directly from the one sitting on the throne.
This covenant of life is described in Ezekiel chapter one as an infolding fire.
And I looked, and, behold, a whirlwind came out of the north, a great cloud, and a fire infolding itself, and a brightness was about it, and out of the midst thereof as the colour of amber, out of the midst of the fire.
The rainbow is a symbol of that covenant but the covenant itself is the love of God, infolding itself and drawing everything it comes in contact with into itself. A fire storm that draws everything into itself and changes it into love. So the thing that was drawn into the fire to start with becomes fuel to cause the fire to grow.
This is how we defeat the hate in the world today, by returning to the throne of God and being surrounded by a covenant of life that is so hot that it draws everything it comes in contact with into the fire itself.
LORD rekindle the fire in the heart of your people.
