And Aaron shall make an atonement upon the horns of it once in a year with the blood of the sin offering of atonements: once in the year shall he make atonement upon it throughout your generations: it is most holy unto the LORD.
There are many aspects to, and pictures within, the sacrifice of our Lord on Calvary’s cross. One of those streams of truth is His atonement blood. One of the ministries of the blood of Jesus is to provide and bring atonement. At-one-ment. At-one-ment between God and man and at-one-ment between between man and man. If two people are both freely accepting and receiving the at-one-ment blood of Jesus Christ how can they possible have an issue with each other. The atonement blood was offered once a year for the whole nation.
At certain times the nation was numbered and when it was numbered everyone who was counted had to bring an offering of half a shekel to the sanctuary.
The rich shall not give more, and the poor shall not give less than half a shekel, when they give an offering unto the LORD, to make an atonement for your souls.
The offering was the same for everyone. Half a shekel for the rich and half a shekel for the poor. The purpose of the offering was to make an atonement for your souls, as stated in Exodus 30:15. We can not buy our way into heaven but the picture is that the price of atonement is the same for everyone. Half a shekel for the rich and half a shekel for the poor.
It seems in today’s world that some group is always tearing down another group or class of people. Churches at odds with each other, the educated against the not so educated, rich against poor and color against color. However the cost of at-one-ment is the same for everyone. Regardless of station in life the cost of atonement for my soul is the same as the cost of atonement for your soul. The value of every soul is the same to the Lord. He paid the same price for my soul as He did for your soul.
No wonder we are taught in Matthew 6:9 to pray “Our” Father which art in heaven. We are equals in God’s eyes.
