Psalm 48:1-2
Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness. Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King.

He is a beautiful God! Unsearchable, omnipresent, omniscient and omnipotent, He is a beautiful God. Loving, merciful, compassionate, full of grace and truth, He is a beautiful God.

The word beautiful means fair, comely, pleasant and comes from a root word meaning to shine, to be bright. How beautiful, when in the midst of great darkness and pain, not knowing how anything will work out, a beautiful God shows up with the light of His love and guidance.

In Acts 12 as Peter slept, chained between two guards, the night before he was to be executed, the Bible says a light shined in the prison and an angel smote Peter on the side and said arise. How was Peter supposed to do that when he was chained between two guards and locked up in a prison? You never hear Peter express the impossibility of his situation to the Lord. Peter just obeys, and as he does so, the chains fall off and Peter is delivered from the impossible situation he was in. He is a beautiful God.

The Psalmist said He is beautiful for situation. The word here for situation means to be high, conspicuous and it means it rises up beautifully.

It can seem, at times, that no one ever notices when you do something good. However, when you are in a rough place, everyone is talking about you and expounding upon how you must be bad and you surely must have upset God for you to end up in the situation you are in.

Matthew 5:14 says, “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.” Peter, and how his God had delivered him from prison, were certainly the talk of everyone on the day Herod would have executed Peter. Likewise, we are sometimes placed into situations, in order to be a city set on a hill, a light shining forth into some weary soul’s darkness.

He is a beautiful God. His ways are unsearchable, yet He is a beautiful God. When all is well, He is a beautiful God. When I am being mistreated and abused, lied upon and used, He is a beautiful God.
