1 Samuel 17:40
And he took his staff in his hand, and chose him five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in a shepherd’s bag which he had, even in a scrip; and his sling was in his hand: and he drew near to the Philistine.

When little David, the future king of Israel, faced the giant Goliath, the current leader, Saul, tried to arm David with his own armor. David put off the king’s armor and said, i can’t use these things, I haven’t proved them. David then went to the brook and chose five smooth stones and put them in his shepherd’s bag. These five stones picture the name of Jesus to us. It was with just one of those stones that David took down the enemy of the whole nation.

Little David knew that he could never defeat that giant in his life by himself. He also knew that he could not do it with someone else’s armor. He did know what does work and he went running for the name of Jesus.

In eternity future there is a River of Life that flows out of the Throne of God and the Lamb. Revelation 22:1, And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb. David had already learned how to get connected to a River of Life that swallows up all death. We too can reach the Throne of God and have access to this River of Life when we face the giants of life when we simply embrace to name of Jesus.

If David took down a giant with just one stone of the name of Jesus, what kind of victory in Jesus could we have with all five letters?
