Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.
In today’s connected and online world of constant demands, needs and situation after situation to deal with, it can quickly become an overwhelming cloud of darkness, where it seems there is no relief nor hope in sight.
As Jesus approached His final hours on this earth with the greatest trials and suffering just ahead, He looked on His Disciples and instead of trying to get them to feel sorry for Him or to take part of His appointed suffering for Him, He instead just loved them. He loved them because that was the greatest gift He could give them. His love was the substance they needed in order to successfully navigate the hard times that were just ahead.
The Bible said, “having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.” These disciples were not strangers to Jesus. He had known them a long time. He had known them before they were ever born. They just happened to be in the world, at this point. The awesome thing is, “He loved them to the end.”
Human beings will love you, but they don’t always love you, “to the end”. They will love you as long as you are doing it their way and as long as they approve of your life. However, if you don’t agree with their judgments of your life, they will give up on you and move on to someone else who they feel will worship at their feet while they sit on the judgment seat.
Human beings will fail us and we are going to fail others. That’s just the way that it is. However Jesus Christ will never fail us. We are His and He loved us before we were in the world and He will love us to the end. Regardless of my faults, failures and mistakes, His unconditional love is with me. Everything I have need of is in His love. I do everything in my power to help those whom I love. How much more then will Jesus be there with me. He loved me before I was in the world and He loves me to the end!
