1 Corinthians 2:14
But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
The natural man cannot receive the things of the Spirit of God and the natural man cannot know the things of the Spirit of God. They are spiritually discerned and it just never works according to my understanding and reasoning ability. For example there was a time once long ago when the LORD told Abraham to take his son Isaac and sacrifice him on an altar. That goes against all natural understanding and against everything taught to us by the Word of God.
Abraham must have been walking by the Spirit of God because sacrificing your only child and heir does not make sense to the natural man. Yet Abraham walked on in obedience. No wonder the LORD prefers obedience over sacrifice. Sacrifice is good and necessary but obedience is the greater. Sure enough when Abraham’s obedience led him to the proper place, God provided a sacrifice for His altar and Isaac lived. Just because I don’t see how this thing can possibly work out doesn’t mean that I shouldn’t obey the voice of the LORD and follow the Spirit of God.
As you travel through life’s journey many people will feel like they have the answer for you and will feel like they know how you should live your life, where you should work, who you should marry and where you should go to offer sacrifice and worship the LORD. Often the LORD will lead you by His Spirit down a path that others cannot understand. It is at that point that the LORD is testing your obedience and you can count on Him to provide a sacrifice for His altar when you have arrived at the appointed place. When our natural mind and the natural mind of those around us are having trouble understanding what is going on it is a definite sign that it is time for me to be walking in obedience to the Spirit of God and not by someone else’s understanding.
Jesus, the true sacrifice on God’s altar is already there at the appointed place waiting on my obedience to bring me there.
