James 3:13

Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.

Wise men endued with knowledge? I think the world is filled with those who consider themselves wise and endued with knowledge. The problem is that their conversation or their behavior and manner of life, is not producing works with meekness of wisdom.

What then is meekness? Meekness is my attitude before men. It is a fruit of the Spirit that is produced by a mature tree. Meekness means that I can walk by Philippians 2:3, “Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves”. So instead of making sure I’m putting out the right image so that everyone esteems me righteous and full of knowledge, I walk in such a manner so that others discover who they are and come into their own in Christ Jesus.

Why is it that wisdom and knowledge are so often used to control and manipulate for purposes of self-promotion and not so that others discover who they are in Christ? Wisdom and knowledge used for control of others results in abuse. Then when things begin to fall apart on us, we quickly find a way to blame it on the church members, our boss, our spouse or the children.

There was a man one time who used wisdom and knowledge to influence and convince a whole nation to start a war that ended up in millions being abused and even losing their lives. On the other side of the scales Father Abraham came to a place once when instead of trying to control Lot, his nephew, he allowed Lot to choose which part he wanted and they separated ways. You never hear Abraham prophesying doom on Lot because he left Abraham.

When their wisdom and knowledge fails to control, people are quick to prophesy doom on those they lose control of.

That is not works with wisdom of meekness coming from a good conversation or good behavior and manner of life.
