Exodus 20:1-2

And God spake all these words, saying, I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

The subconscious and unconscious part of the human mind is a most extraordinary thing. It can give birth to an abstract idea. As we begin to feel that idea taking shape, we start meditating and thinking about it. We begin to see the individual thoughts and parts of that idea. As we express that idea through words, in writing, with art, composing music or perhaps by building something out of wood, plaster or whatever our choice of material may be, others can see and understand what was birthed in our unconscious as a whole.

In science it is called a body of knowledge. A whole made up of parts. Likewise with the thoughts that come up from the unconscious part of our being.

I think the LORD God displayed that very thing in Exodus 20. The Hebrew words translated as spake and then as saying in verse 1 are two different words. So God spake all these words, or He gave this unified concept, saying, and He begins to break it down into individual parts.

Jesus explained in Matthew 22:36-40 that all the law and commandments come down to one thing and that is love. Loving the Lord and loving your neighbor as yourself. If I love the LORD with all my being I am going to do what is right and not sin against the LORD or cause Him grief or pain. If you really love someone you try your best to not cause them any pain or grief but rather bring joy and gladness to their heart.

God is love and when we are in love with Him we will be a living display of His love to all those around us. We won’t be taking advantage of others, stealing, lusting or envying because our love for the LORD is so great. That display of love will draw others to the source of love, God Himself. Our life, as a whole, is made up of the individual acts of love towards those around us. We can be the fulfillment of a God of love.
