1 Peter 2:9-10
But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
We are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, and a peculiar people not because we are so wonderful but because we have obtained mercy. It’s not because we deserved any of it but rather it’s because He chose us to shew forth the praises of Him who called us out of darkness and into His marvelous light. As the group Casting Crowns sings so beautifully, it’s not because of what I’ve done but it’s because of who He is.
We are a chosen generation. He chose us. Because of His great mercy He chose us who were in the darkness and brought us out into His marvelous light. We now walk in the all sufficiency of the Almighty God of all heaven and earth. In Genesis 17:1 the LORD told Abram, “And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.” How does anyone walk before the LORD and be perfect?
The LORD would not have told Abram to do something that was impossible to do. He told Abram how it was possible to walk perfect. He said, I am the Almighty God and that’s how you can walk before me and be perfect. To be perfect means to be complete, whole and entire. There certainly is nothing complete, whole or entire about any human being. However the Almighty God is certainly complete, whole and entire. The LORD was telling Abram, in so many words, there are some things you still have left to go through but walk in the light that I have given you and you will have everything you need to successfully navigate the course set before you.
Abram had been chosen by God and had been called out of the darkness and into the marvelous light of God Almighty. Walk in God’s light and you will have the all sufficiency of God Almighty with you every step of the way.
