Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.
Seek ye the LORD! In my personal experience, seeking the LORD has not really been a difficult thing to do when things are going good in life and you feel the presence and love of God near. Neither have I found it to be difficult to seek the LORD when everything seems to be wrong and I wonder which way is even up anymore.
This is a peculiar type of seeking though. This is the type of seeking that Rebekah did in Genesis 25 when she was with child and this struggle was going on inside of her. Genesis 25:22, “And the children struggled together within her; and she said, If it be so, why am I thus? And she went to enquire of the LORD.” Enquire here in Genesis 25:22 is the same word as seek in Isaiah 55:6. If we just cursorily read across Genesis 25:22 we can get the impression that Rebekah ran in to wherever it was that she went to pray and said LORD what is going on inside me and the LORD answered her immediately so she jumps up and runs back out.
The truth is that many times seeking is a process and not just a momentary experience that occurs in a quick fashion. Rebekah must have felt this struggle within her happening over a period of time and the struggle must have increased as the children grew. Rebekah was not even aware that she was carrying twins for the longest time. In those days you didn’t jump up and run to the doctor and have a sonogram done. So Rebekah was in this struggle for a period of time before discovering she was carrying twins.
I can well relate to struggling and wondering, “What is going on inside me?” While we still live in this mortal body there will be a struggle within us between pleasing the body and our humanity versus seeking after and following the LORD. When things are going good we feel spiritual and when things are falling apart we are quick to run to the LORD. However, it’s in the everyday struggles of life that we must learn to seek the LORD. When the struggle between the desires of humanity and the Spirit of God within us are at the worst is exactly the time when the LORD desires to hear us calling upon Him. Seek ye the LORD! He is waiting to hear from you today.
