Genesis 3:15

And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

Enmity is hatred or a hostile mind. As the LORD was speaking to the serpent in the Garden, after the fall of Adam and his wife, He said I am putting enmity, hatred and a hostile mind between thee and the woman. The LORD God’s work is infinite, as always, but one big reason the LORD God put this enmity between the seed of the serpent and the seed of the woman was so that the seed of the woman would recognize when the serpent was working in the middle of a situation. God is love and when we feel and suffer hate it is a clear indication that we need to be seeking God before we give birth to something that is unChrist like.

This prophecy was later fulfilled in Galatians 4:4-5 when the Bible says, “But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.” This was the literal fulfillment of Genesis 3:15, however those of us who have accepted Jesus as our Messiah and personal Savior often experience this in our daily lives. My testimony is that I frequently run into hate in this world. It is common in today’s world to see enmity, hatred and a hostile mind when two people are not the same color, don’t go to the same church, don’t speak the same language or don’t vote for the same political party and, most egregious of all, maybe don’t belong to the same clique in the church. When faced with enmity we have a choice to make, do we respond in like fashion with hate and a hostile mind or do we respond with love. Even if we are witness to a situation enflamed with enmity, hatred and a hostile mind we can still pray for the parties involved and speak love into the situation.

Speaking love into a situation is exactly what the LORD God did when this earth was without form and darkness was upon the face of the deep in Genesis 1 and the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters and God said let there be light and there was light.

LORD God in heaven above, please teach us to speak love into the enmity and hatred of this world!
