1 John 4:7

Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.

It could be said that on this great cosmic stage, called earth, here in time, that there really are only 2 great forces. Light and dark, good and evil, pleasure and pain or at its most basic expression, love and hate. That is because our grandparents, Adam and Eve ate from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. Now we always find these two opposing forces present in every situation and circumstance and we must choose which one to feed upon. This is what the writer is expressing in ! John 4:7. Let us love one another. Let us choose to feed upon love in every circumstance we encounter.

Let us love one another. Love is of God. Everyone that loveth is born of God and knoweth God. If we really know God and have been born of Him how can we not love one another?

Think about where you were and the condition of your soul when God found you. He didn’t ask you to change your life and fix all your problems so He could love you. He didn’t require us to prove our loyalty to Him first before He choose to love us but rather, “God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8.

If we really understood how God loves us we would have no problem choosing to love one another. When we attack someone because they believe different from us or because they belong to a different church than we do or maybe have a different spiritual guide than we do we have chosen against loving one another.

What was Jesus’ reaction when Peter drew his sword and cut off the ear of the High Priest’s servant? Jesus said, “Put your sword up.” We are not to choose darkness and hate even in defense of the light and love. Love does not need to be defended with hate. Jesus loved me when I was lost in my darkness and hate and likewise I should love my neighbor as Christ loves me.

Jesus please help us to love one another: for love is of God!
