He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.
So there is no gray scale with Jesus Christ. You are either for Him or against Him.
I think one of the big issues in Christianity is Christians inability to divide between the person and the sin. Jesus Christ hates sin but He loves sinners so much that He willingly submitted to death on the cross so that we could be saved from our sin. Proverbs 6:16, “These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:” The Bible goes on to name those seven things. A proud look, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, an heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, a false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren. Then in John 3:16 we are told that God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son to us.
So often we are like Peter, when the soldiers came to arrest Jesus, and we take our sword out and swing it at the accusers. You will note that Peter cut the ear of the priest off, although i’m thinking he probably meant to kill him and just missed his mark. The point is, how is someone going to hear that Jesus loves them if we cut their ear off in the process of trying to destroy them because they came against us for some reason?
So there is no gray scale with Jesus Christ. You are either for Him or against Him. Yet just because someone is against Jesus Christ does not give us the right nor responsibility to hate them or try to destroy them. If someone is against Jesus how are they going to be converted except they see the love of God actively changing someone’s life and then reaching out to them?
So when I become an active witness of how the love of God changed me and healed me of all those ugly and undesirable things that destroy human lives and I talk about that instead of how wrong someone is because of what they are doing, the love of God can begin to shine into the darkness of someone else’s heart and starts working to begin a new creation in their world just like it happened in mine.
Genesis 1:2-3, “And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.”
