Joel 2:25-26
And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpiller, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you. And ye shall eat in plenty, and be satisfied, and praise the name of the LORD your God, that hath dealt wondrously with you: and my people shall never be ashamed.
The LORD our God shall restore to us the years that we thought were devoured and wasted. How much greater a promise do we need? Who is going to stop the LORD God? No one is going to stop Him. He said it and He will do it.
When you look back at your life it can be easy, at times, to feel as if many years were wasted pursuing some dream that has never materialized. We spend years pursuing a dream of peace or pursuing riches. We even pursue spiritual riches so everyone will know that I’ve got this religious thing figured out and I’m going to be on the top of the religious mountain. The human spirit is ever striving for superiority and if we can’t get ahead in the natural world we try to get ahead in the religious world.
The secret is not in getting ahead so that human beings understand how right you were and how wrongly you were mistreated. The secret is in that moment of spiritual relationship clarity that comes when I suddenly understand that the LORD God has dealt wondrously with me.
Wondrously means something that is beyond my power and hard to understand but is extraordinary and marvelous. For example the way that the LORD allowed the children of Israel to spend four hundred years in bondage in the land of Egypt and then delivered all those poor slaves in such a miraculous way.
When I can look back at my life and see all that has happened as the wonderful works of God, I am at the threshold of Jubilee and I will never have to be ashamed again. I will eat in plenty, be satisfied, and praise the name of the LORD God.
These are the wonderful works of God and they are marvelous in my eyes!
